Camp Cool is the large, sloping front yard of a generous couple with a young baby. Experienced campers willing to forego showers, and those with a self-sufficient RV (batteries fully charged, water tank loaded), will enjoy the funky scene.
For less experienced or equipped campers, there is a KOA campground in West Sacramento (much closer to the capital than Cool), with showers, toilets, a few cabins, and level pull-through pads and hookups for RVs. It has telephones, wireless Internet, a swimming pool, and a pond with pedal boat rentals. It’s near the Old Town historic area (including the fantastic train museum we used as a field trip last year).
Note: being in town means you don’t have to cook anything! You can just eat out (or takeout, back at your campsite). But the picnic at the Statehouse on Tuesday is potluck, so you may want to have some lunch-ready munchies and drinking water. (Kid-friendly foods that travel well with limited refrigeration include PB, honey, bread, graham crackers, yogurt, carrot sticks, celery, citrus, hummos, pita bread, and raisins.)
Please let us know you’re coming to the rally and/or Monday evening potluck in Cool by emailing us at join@californiachildrensrally.com.
